There’s nothing worse than opening your oven door and seeing its filthy contents staring back at you. In fact, the sight is often so bad that many people just slam the door shut and put off doing anything about it for yet another day.

But if you want this habit to be a thing of the past, it is good to get into the practice of doing things to prevent your oven getting filthy.

After looking up oven cleaners near me to give it a professional scrub, you can start looking after your appliance properly.

Regular cleaning

The trick to avoiding build-up of grease and dirt is to clean it regularly. Ron Shimek, president of Mr Appliance, told Martha Stewart the best thing to do is clean it once every three months.

By attending to it frequently, this prevents burnt food and grime from accumulating, which makes it harder and longer to clean when you do get round to it.

Use oven liners

One way to stop the bottom of your oven getting really dirty is to use oven liners. These can be quickly and easily wiped after every use and leaves your oven interior looking spotless for months.

Use self-cleaning feature

Lots of modern ovens have a self-cleaning feature which uses extreme heat to turn any grease and food into ash, which can then be wiped away.

However, Mr Shimek advised not relying on this all the time, as it can be “very strenuous on your appliance”.

Put a lid on it

Cut down on how often you have to clean your oven by reducing the risk of spillage. This can easily be achieved by putting a lid or tin foil over trays and pots.
