Millions of people all over the UK celebrate Chinese New Year these days, whether they head to their nearest ‘China Town’, make red and gold decorations with their children, or whip up some delicious Far Eastern recipes.

Here are some dishes you should attempt to cook on Sunday January 22nd to celebrate the year of the rabbit.

Prawn toast

Prawn toast is a must-have choice when ordering a Chinese takeaway, but now you can make your own. Simply blend raw prawns with cornflour, egg white, ginger, and Chinese five-spice. Then spread the mixture on to bread before dipping into egg yolk.

Cover with sesame seeds before frying in a pan until golden brown on both sides. You should then place it in the oven at 170C for up to ten minutes to crisp up while you make the dressing and salad accompaniment.

Spiced longevity noodles with crispy duck

A dish that is often eaten during Chinese New Year is longevity noodles for a long and healthy life. Youmian noodles are extra-long, so grab some of these from an Asian food store if you can.

The Guardian recommends enjoying youmian with crispy duck for a delicious Chinese meal. Simply cook duck legs in a very hot oven at 240C for 30 minutes before turning down the temperature to 185C and roasting for another 45 minutes, flipping them over halfway through.

Once it is cooked, add to the noodles with an array of delicious spices and sauces, and sprinkle spring onions and sesame seeds on top.

BBQ pork buns

Another delicious recipe is BBC Good Food’s BBQ pork buns, with a filling of bacon, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, tomato puree and honey. Serve this with sour soy sauce dip of soy sauce and rice vinegar with shredded chilli on top.

Make sure to call your oven cleaners before you start getting creative in the kitchen, particularly if you have not had time to sort it out since Christmas.
